Is it for aviation or maritime
For both. If you are a navigator onboard an aircraft you will need to additionally correct for the Coriolis effect.
This is the best teaching in celestial navigation I've come across. Well explained, easy to understand, straight to the point. Thank you for sharing this video, much appreciated 👍
Amazing!
Amazing RUclips! I can almost understand this. It will take several more sessions watching the RUclips but it's all there. Lucky thing, I have the 2102-D.
Hey so I need help from anyone who knows celestial navigation please reply to this comment if you would like to help
A superb, no nonsense, no frills explanation of the Star Finder. Thanks! Oh, and Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays or Happy Hanuka.... whatever!

Fun fact that the creator of this video failed to mention. The sextant and Celestial navigation prove without a shadow of a doubt that the Earth is a flat plane not around planet. You cannot get your elevation angle with a curved adjacent and your feet. Globe debunked
Idiot
Fwat erf seagull can’t resist flying over and shitting in the comments 😂
@@EmersumBiggins don't talk crap just because you nor anyone else can prove the nonsense you believe in with the globe
@@davesantiago1827 I don’t “believe” it’s a globe. I know it is, for a fact. 🙂

Thank you very much!
Guys what are the pros and cons of shooting the planets compared to stars? Awesome video by the way. Thank you 🙏
Pros: usually brighter than stars and since they don't tilt, easier to capture with the sextant. Cons: moving significantly faster than stars since they are closer to the Earth.
The use of a star finder is well presented. Nice work
this was very helpful
Why am I seeing a flat earth warning from RUclips?
Because the flat earth seagulls can’t resist flying over and shitting nonsense in the comment section 🙄
Gracias
Love this video. Gimme some mashke
Siri, find Greenish
The first calculation at 24:25 to find the star Vega started with knowing the latitude and longitude. If you already knew that, why do you need to calculate further? How did you know it to begin with?
These are dead reckoning or estimations only, hence they are a base for finding your exact lat and long. Cheers
It is a good device. Some users marked the months around the base plate. On the red transparency they marked the hours of the day and a map of the world. With the time and date brought together, the stars are mapped onto the Earth. Then the azimuth grid can be set where it belongs.
If you want to understand the stars, you first need to understand the earth is not a globe.
By carefully studying the heavenly bodies (sun, moon, stars, planets), you can determine that: 1. They're not local. They're many, many earth diameters away from observers on Earth. 2. You're standing on a sloping surface (the angle of slope corresponds to latitude). In other words, everyone's flagpoles are not parallel. 3. There's an axial rotation to either the entire heavens in concert, or more simply, of Earth. This axial rotation will also correspond to your latitude. There you go, you've just discovered the shape of the Earth, by studying the sky from your own backyard. 🙂 See my channel for more details.
Lmfao. Did you come back to reality yet?
@@danielcastillo8295 , shut your mouth, stupid nasa - guy.

Everything clicked now. Many thanks!
Get real, the Earth is a motionless donut.

Really awesome tutorial
This is a great video! Thank you! I do have a question. What about using the moon? Could we just use the blue latitude disc along with the moon's LHA? The only problem is how to plot it using its declination since there's no slot on the blue template. Thanks!
The moon is too close hence moves too quickly. Planets and stars are the way to go 👍
I don't know if not knowing what they're saying makes te the experience better or not
they are just greeting and asking if they can hear eachother

Thank you very much for the excellent video. Another video I would like to see is one showing how to locate stars using a celestial globe (like one of these: www.fpm.de/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=30&virtuemart_category_id=2&Itemid=264&lang=en )
Good presentation.
Could you please develop a video explaining steps if our latitude is in the middle in between "Blue Disks. Let us say 40 Degrees N in between 35N and 45N degrees template. Thanks.
Well explained. Having said that it seems like a complex way to find stars. The night sky barely changes from night to night (a measly 1 degree per day). So why not just learn a handful of stars one night and refamiliarize yourself each night. You can predict exactly where they will pop up as it’s almost the same place as the night before. I realize Vega was only an example, but gosh, that’s one easiest stars to identify in the night’s sky. The planets are nice and bright and easy to identify as well.
Agree but bear in mind that at sea you will often have heavy cloud cover at night so may have limited (or no) stars or planets to shoot. Cheers
We well explained: Subject matter and use of star finder templates.
